Programme
Friday 8 January
- 3.00 pm DJ Mike and DJ Sputnik
This musical duo has been providing the music before, after and between sets for many years. They don’t just fill the gaps; they are both artists who, with their extensive vinyl collection, know exactly how to get the dance floor packed. They don’t work from a playlist, but have a perfect feel for the dancers. And so these two top DJs decide on their next track time and time again.
- 7.45 pm T-Men & Miss Ella
Hailing from the south, T-Men & Miss Ella have been a fixture on the Dutch jump, swing and rock ’n’ roll scene for many years. The band’s repertoire draws heavily on the 1950s: jump blues and early rock ’n’ roll numbers by artists such as Ruth Brown, Varetta Dillard, Wynona Carr, Amos Milburn, Joe Turner, Etta James and Roy Brown. Later songs are also on the programme, but the quintessential fifties atmosphere remains the defining feature. With matching outfits and vintage instruments, they strive for an authentic look and sound, allowing the audience to relive the era both musically and visually.
- 10.00 pm Freddy Velas & The SilverTones
Freddy Velas & The Silvertones are an Italian doo-wop group from Palermo (Sicily), heavily inspired by the Italian-American vocal harmony tradition of the 1950s and early 1960s. The group was formed in London in the mid-1990s around the Velasquéz brothers and later moved back to Italy.
They are known for: covers of classic American doo-wop songs, original songs in authentic 1950s style, and live performances at European rock ’n’ roll and doo-wop festivals.
Their version of “Oh Rosemarie” is a remake of the 1959 song by The Fascinators, featuring lead singer Tony Passalacqua (later often referred to as Tony Passa).
Freddy Velas & The Silvertones re-recorded the song for their 2018 album Doo Wop Girls. At the Sh-Boom Festival in Italy, Freddy Velas & The Silvertones even shared the bill with Tony Passa of The Fascinators. Other songs covered by Freddy Velas & The Silvertones include: “Hushabye”. Stylistically, they sit somewhere between classic New York doo-wop, Italian rock ’n’ roll à la Little Tony and revival groups from the rockabilly scene. As a result, they have achieved cult status at European vintage music festivals.

- 10.15 pm Si Cranstoun
Si Cranstoun is a British singer, songwriter and entertainer known for his unique blend of rock ’n’ roll, doo-wop, rhythm & blues, soul, ska and rockabilly. He grew up in South London and began his career as a street musician before becoming a major figure in the international vintage and retro scene.
Before making his solo breakthrough, he formed the ska and reggae group The Dualers with his brother Tyber. The band scored UK hits such as “Kiss on the Lips” and “Truly Madly Deeply”. Around 2010, Si decided to go solo and focus more on the music of the 1950s and 1960s that he had grown up with. His style is often described as: vintage rhythm & blues, swinging rock ’n’ roll, doo-wop with soul influences, and energetic jive music. Key influences include Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, Little Richard and Elvis Presley.
Si Cranstoun really made his breakthrough on the retro scene with tracks such as ‘Dynamo’ and ‘Coupe De Ville’. ‘Dynamo’ in particular became a huge favourite at rockabilly and jive festivals thanks to its fast tempo and danceable energy. His 2014 album ‘Modern Life’ even reached the UK album charts after he signed a contract with Warner/East West Records. He has performed with artists such as Little Richard and played at major vintage events such as Twinwood Festival, Rhythm Riot and Viva Las Vegas. What makes him special within the rockabilly and vintage world is that he doesn’t simply copy old styles. Many of his original songs sound as though they’ve come straight from the golden age of rock ’n’ roll and soul, yet still feel modern and fresh. As a result, he appeals to both traditional rock ’n’ roll fans and lovers of oldies and swing.
